The Summer Olympics
LONDON 2012! The Olympic Games start on July 27th in London, England and the United States has a lot of great athletes going for the gold. Michael Phelps looks to add to his 16 medals as he is set to swim in 7 events; 17 year-old swimmer Missy Franklin is also racing in seven events and NBA stars like Lebron James and Kevin Durant lead the men’s basketball team in what should be another gold medal in the sport.
Other possible stars to watch for are track and field athletes like Lolo Jones, Sanya Richards-Ross, and Allyson Felix. The women’s gymnastics team is favored to win the team competition and they have a good chance to win individual medals too.
But don’t forget some international athletes like world record holder Usain Bolt in the 100 meter dash and Roger Federer who is a champion tennis player.
It should be a fun few weeks of watching different events some of which most people only see every four years during the Olympics, like cycling, diving, fencing, rowing and for the first time in these games, women’s boxing.
I’m gonna grab some popcorn and watch the Opening ceremonies and try to count how many great athletes can all be assembled in the same arena at once!
